Tom Odell Announces Seventh Album: 'A Wonderful Life'

Tom Odell is stepping into a new era. The British singer-songwriter, known for his distinct piano-driven style and deeply personal lyrics, is set to release his seventh studio album, Tom Odell's A Wonderful Life, arriving September 5, 2025, through UROK/Virgin. Fans already buzzing from his recent releases now have plenty more to look forward to.

This upcoming record embraces both the messiness and the beauty of life. Odell has been unusually candid about what went into this project. He spent an intense nine months immersed in lyric-writing, driven to nail the feeling behind every line. In his own words, the album looks at 'the chaos and the hope' tangled up in today's world—a theme he threads through each song, from melancholic ballads to big, hope-filled climaxes.

The Stories and Sounds Behind the Songs

The Stories and Sounds Behind the Songs

A Wonderful Life features 10 tracks, including his previously released single "Don’t Let Me Go" and the brand-new song, "Don’t Cry, Put Your Head On My Shoulder." The latter is a haunting, guitar-led piece, carrying a sense of comfort through pain and breaking out into a soaring finish. The album goes deeper, exploring raw human emotions without shying away from struggle or imperfection. Other tracks—like "Prayer," "Why Do I Always Want The Things I Can’t Have," "Ugly," and "Can Old Lovers Ever Just Be Friends?"—promise to hit home with anyone reflecting on love, longing, or regret.

Odell didn't polish every sound clean. Instead, he recorded the album live at several iconic London studios: Church Studios, HOXA, and RAK Studios' Room One. That meant musicians played together in the same room, instead of being recorded separately, which gives the album a warm, almost imperfect energy—snippets of one instrument slipping into the next. It’s a way to capture emotion as it really happens, not just the perfected takes.

Every lyric was carefully considered. Odell confessed he spent more time than usual rewriting lines, focused on getting "lyrical precision" just right. It wasn't about perfection in the technical sense, but in creating connections that feel true and immediate.

The full tracklist goes like this:

  • Prayer
  • Can We Just Go Home Now
  • Don’t Let Me Go
  • Don’t Cry, Put Your Head On My Shoulder
  • Why Do I Always Want The Things I Can’t Have
  • Wonderful Life
  • Ugly
  • Strange House
  • Can Old Lovers Ever Just Be Friends?
  • The End Of Suffering

This lineup hints at an emotional journey, jumping from tender hope to bittersweet memories and everything in between.

To add excitement, Odell will hit the road this summer in support of the album. He isn’t going it alone, either—he’ll be joining pop superstar Billie Eilish on her
